Skills and achievements:

About:
Vasiliy received his Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering with high honors (Magna Cum Laude) from the University of Utah, USA, in 2007, and then Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering with a Golden Key honor from the same university in 2015. His undergraduate research focused on creating 3-D tissue models for endothelial cell growth under different physical and chemical conditions with the purpose of studying angiogenesis that is important in disease development and wound healing. Prior to pursuing his graduate degree, Vasiliy worked as a research associate in pharmaceutical companies. In the graduate school he became part of the NSF Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship. His graduate school research included experiments coupled with mathematical modeling to study transport phenomena of molecules and nanoparticles that are important in a variety of applications. Towards the end of the graduate school, Vasiliy started studying endogenous nanoparticles, their membrane proteins and cargo, such as miRNA, mRNA and DNA that had been found to play a critical role in disease progression. He focused on studying their biophysical and chemical properties that would be useful for future disease screening and drug delivery.
